State Police are investigating the single-vehicle collision which occurred at approximately 3:25 a.m. Saturday, May 18 eastbound on the parkway at exit 36N in Oyster Bay.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the collision occurred when the operator of a 2003 Honda Pilot traveling eastbound, lost control when entering a curve in the roadway, state police said.
The Honda then exited the roadway onto the right shoulder and struck the steel pole of a DOT Inform overhead sign, said police.
The rear driver’s side passenger, Darwin I. Velasquez-Acosta, 19, of Brentwood, was partially ejected from the vehicle and succumbed to his injuries at the scene, according to police.
The driver, Franklin A. Cruz-Ortez, 17, of Bay Shore and a second rear passenger were taken to Winthrop University Hospital and are currently being treated for serious injuries, said police.
The front passenger was taken to Nassau University Medical Center and is also currently being treated for serious injuries, said police. At this time, there have been no criminal charges filed.
